Hello and welcome to June!

The start of June will see the UK start a four day holiday, as we celebrate the Queen’s platinum jubilee. A truly remarkable lady, the Queen has been on the throne for 70 years, the longest serving monarch in world history. In true British style, there are a number of celebrations planned, with most villages, cities and towns opening themselves up to huge street parties, concerts and wonderful displays of support for a monarch who has seen it all! We’re so proud that some of our dearest family members, who because they serve in the military, will be an important part of this historic occasion. God Save The Queen!

In other news, our resident and wonderful features writer, Karen McKenzie, has been looking at the surge in demand for pet food and the effect that this has had on the thriving three-piece can market. As people worldwide faced restrictions, lockdowns and stay at home orders, many were left lonely and isolated.  When reality set in and society adapted to new circumstances, millions of people made room in their lives for pets, particularly cats and dogs. You’ve been busy….

The Queen is not the only person celebrating 70 years this summer. Tata Steel’s Trostre Tinplate Works is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, with a number of celebrations planned to mark the occasion. Read more here.

Ardagh has announced that the location of its previously-announced first glass production facility in Brazil will be at Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais. The state-of-the-art facility will supply sustainable glass packaging to leading customers in the growing Brazilian market. Production is expected to commence in the first half of 2024 and, when operational, the facility will provide approximately 300 high quality jobs. Read more here.

INX has established INX Venture Capital, a fund aimed at making minority investments in technology and materials science start-ups with strategic relevance to the printing inks and coatings value chain. INX Venture Capital will be a $50M investment program and will focus on categories like sustainability and circular economy solutions, digital printing, business and manufacturing automation, and services for brand owners. If you attended this year’s Latamcan (the Latin American Canmakers Conference) on 11th, 12th and 13th May in São Paulo, Brazil, you’ll know that it was a spectacular affair! The 2022 event, held at the beautiful Bourbon Atibaia Resort, brought canmakers, suppliers and everyone in between together under one roof for several days of industry innovation and networking.
