Hello and welcome to April!

And just like that, we’re right into the second quarter of 2022. We’re not sure where the time has gone and when speaking to some of you in the industry, it seems as if the sentiment is echoed right across the globe. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has escalated beyond a point any of us could probably have imagined. We’re praying for a peaceful solution and hope that our Ukrainian friends stay safe.

You’ve been busy….

Ball and Resource Recycling Systems (RRS), a sustainable material and resource consulting firm, have released a new nationwide study showing the economic and environmental benefits of improving the aluminium can recycling rate in the United States to 90% – an increase from the current rate of 38%. Infinitely recyclable and economically valuable, aluminium is among the most sustainable beverage packaging materials, and when recycled, uses 92% less energy than virgin material and supports increased supply of domestic recycled metal. Alupro has unveiled its pioneering Aluminium Manifesto at a virtual roundtable. With speeches from Neil Parish MP, head of the EFRA committee; and Ruth Jones MP, Shadow Minister (EFRA), the event brought together leading parliamentary groups to discuss the national transition towards a circular economy. The UK’s International Trade Secretary Anne-Marie Trevelyan has secured a resolution with the US to end the ongoing issue around steel and aluminium tariffs. Following two months of talks, the Trade Secretary met with Commerce Secretary Raimondo in Washington DC this evening and the US announced an expansive removal of section 232 tariffs*, re-opening tariff free access for UK steel and aluminium exporters to the US.
