What a wash out! No we’re not talking about our industry but the traditional English Summer seems to have been and gone. We brits are obsessed with talking about the weather, particularly when its not been very good so keep your fingers crossed for us and our sanity! In other news, we had a great time at Latamcan earlier in the month. Our host Raúl Martinez, pulled off a fantastic show (as always), further cementing it as a highlight in our calendars. Read more below and on Canmaking News for further highlights.

You’ve been busy….

Roeslein has made some significant changes to its leadership team aimed at fostering continued growth and positioning the company for even greater success in the future. Rudi Roeslein, the visionary founder behind Roeslein & Associates, Inc., has made a strategic decision to transition from his role as CEO to assume the position of Chairman. In this capacity, Mr. Roeslein will continue to provide his invaluable insights and guidance, steering the company’s Board of Directors toward excellence and empowering the next generation of leadership. Cano Water is teaming up with creative agency 10 Days to take a bold stance against Wimbledon’s ongoing partnership with Evian. The #breakupwithplastic campaign aims to raise awareness and encourage Wimbledon and its attendees to embrace more eco-friendly options. Wimbledon, known for its commitment to sustainability, has been partnering with Evian as the official drink sponsor for the past 15 years. Despite recent efforts by Evian, including the provision of reusable bottles to tennis players, the tournament still generates a staggering 250,000 single use plastic bottles each year. We love a clever and creative marketing campaign, check it out here.
It was a bad month for DEFRA who have been criticised for “ignoring” the advice of its own consultation and then “refusing to reveal” how much money was spent on two public consultations on the design of a Deposit Return Scheme. Defra agreed that the inclusion of plastic bottles, glass bottles and metal cans was the preferred option as it provided the greatest net social benefit. The government then conducted two consultations in 2019 and 2021, both revealing support for the inclusion of plastic bottles, glass bottles and metal cans. However, Whitehall pushed for the exclusion of glass bottles in all four nations of the UK. Find out more here.
The annual Latin American Canmakers Conference (Latamcan) returned to Mexico City, Mexico on 12th, 13th and 14th July 2023 for yet another triumphant show. Hailed as the most important meeting of the metal packaging industry in Latin America, the fair welcomed canmaking professionals and suppliers from across the globe, who gathered at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma for three days of networking and to explore the latest sector trends, innovations and solutions. Read the highlights from the show here.

August is a quiet month for shows but in September we are so looking forward to the IMDPA – more to come so stay tuned!
