It’s festival season in the UK and we’re so pleased to see more and more people drinking out of cans! The market for canned food and drink continues to boom as more and more companies switch their packaging in favour of something far more sustainable. This trend shows no sign of slowing down which of course is excellent news for our industry.

The canned spirits category has seen a boom in the last year – showcasing 123% growth – as consumers seek convenient and portable products to integrate into their lifestyles. In tandem with this growth, the flavoured whiskey category continues to grow at four times the rate of unflavoured whiskey. As a category creator and industry innovator, Skrewball Whiskey sought to merge these two areas of consumer demand with the introduction of their new 100ml can, the novel straight flavoured whiskey offering in this format. Heineken is set to build a 1.8 billion peso, or $90 million, can manufacturing plant in the northern Mexican state of Chihuahua near its brewery in the town of Mequoi, the company said this week. The plant, Heineken’s seventh in the country, will bring around 120 direct jobs after opening and around 150 during the construction phase, it said in a press release.

We were delighted to attend Paris Packaging Week from the ADF. Day 1 saw the event’s first sustainability eco tour kick off, a highly busy exhibition tour, the PCD awards ceremony, full conference rooms and a lot of conversations at the various networking bars, we very quickly found the champagne bar!
