The 2024 IMDPA Annual Conference, scheduled to take place from 24-26 September in Itasca, Illinois, US, is poised to be as engaging and informative as ever. September will also see the launch of the Women In Canmaking Association (WICA). A not-for-profit membership organisation on a mission to educate, empower and advance women across the global canmaking industry, WICA aim’s to foster a diverse and equitable landscape where women in manufacturing and supply can thrive, lead and inspire. Canmaking News is thrilled to have been a part of its conception with Janis Osborn a key member of it’s leadership team alongside Sarah Davidson, VP of Human Resources at Roeslein and Martha Rojas, Global Business Development Executive at Roeslein.

Canmaking News in conversation spoke with Callum Mead from CPM Packaging Group who provide global solutions for metal packaging and in particular state-of-the-art conveyors. Callum started to work for CPM from the age of 17. To this day he remains enthusiastic and  a driving force for the company. He is also an active guy with interesting hobbies. Have a listen here…

You’ve been busy…

Beverage can makers are set to benefit from AkzoNobel’s thirst for innovation following the launch of new high-performance internal coating technology which is free of all bisphenols, styrene, PFAS and formaldehyde. The company’s Packaging Coatings business has developed Accelshield 300, an inside spray coating for beverage cans which goes well beyond established technologies in the industry to deliver advanced corrosion protection, flexibility and sensory performance. Britvic celebrates the opening of its upgraded national distribution centre in Leicestershire, following £25 million of investment. The site supplies national and international customers with much-loved soft drinks including Robinsons, Tango and J2O. A recent investment of £20 million, following £5 million committed to the Lutterworth site over the last three years, has resulted in significant improvements and updates to the technical systems and facilities necessary for efficient warehouse and logistical operations. Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has announced an investment of $105.5m to expand its manufacturing capabilities in Australia. The investment will fund a new Warmfill Line at the Moorabbin plant in Victoria, marking the largest single contribution to the company’s Australian manufacturing network. Read more here.
