DESIGN IS ALL

We all know design is important; from inventors and engineers to artists and marketers, design is paramount.

Design not only improves the physical characteristics of an object and thus its performance, good design can also change our perceptions and our behaviour; it catches our eye, it says, ‘look at me, catch me if you can!’ and is much loved by those wanting us to aspire to their product over a competitor. So, with an eye on visuals, this month’s issue has its focus on metal printing and design in the canmaking world.

Our News in Brief section brings you tales of UV lamp and LED solutions for the finishing of packaging, Coca-Cola GB’s new design for its iconic product, and a celebratory collectible from Fox’s Glacier Mints to name a few. In the World News section, you’ll read about Crown’s success at the IMDA Awards, the acquisition of Afon Tinplate by Tinmasters to merge their joint expertise in coating and printing metal for the UK and European markets, and Metal Packaging Europe’s study on European’s preferences when it comes to can design and formats.

And while we’re on the subject of innovative design, a reminder for your calendar; the 2018 British Aerosol Manufacturers’ Association’s (BAMA) 10th annual Forum and Awards Dinner will be held on the 17 and 18 October at the Oulton Hall Hotel, Leeds, UK.

The awards dinner itself will take place on Wednesday 17 October. Guest speakers include the erudite and witty broadcaster, writer and Church of England priest, Reverend Richard Coles.

Patrick Heskins, BAMA chief executive, said: “The BAMA Forum has always proved to be a thought-provoking event and the Awards ceremony is the perfect opportunity to highlight many of the UK Industry’s success stories to guests and BAMA members, sharing best practice and recognising innovative skills across the industry.

“Although the two-day conference remains a member only event, members are encouraged to invite non-members to attend the Awards Dinner which represents an ideal networking opportunity and we would encourage all of our guests to take a table and invite suppliers, customers or other stakeholders.”

In addition to free publicity, the winner in each of the four award categories will receive a £500 voucher.

The runner up in each category will receive a £250 voucher.
