HURRICANE HARVEY GALVANISES CANMAKERS

We are probably biased when it comes to cans and canmakers in general but once again we applaud our industry’s mettle and the importance of cans when catastrophe strikes. Hurricane Harvey hit Texas hard at the end of August and, just before releasing this issue we had time to pick up on some of the Ball Corporation’s tweets about how members of the metal packaging industry stepped up to help in the recovery effort: MillerCoors send 50,000 cans of clean water to Texas, the CAN’d Aid Foundation are also send truckloads of water to the area, Coca Cola teamed up with the Red Cross to help victims and no doubt there are other, as yet, unsung heroes offering time and money and support. Thank you to all of them from us for their benevolent actions.

THIRTY DAYS HAS SEPTEMBER AND THERE’S A LOT TO PACK IN BEFORE THE NEXT ISSUE

Where has the year gone? It seems like no time ago at all since we were at Metpack in early May and now it’s the start of Autumn in the UK, Summer (what summer?) is over unless we’re going to get an Indian version, although we’re not holding our breath here at Canmaking News.

Our Feature this month, “The Mists of Time: Past, Present and Future”, takes as its cue the Aerosol and Dispensing Forum and Packaging of Perfume, Cosmetics and Design (ADF&PCD) expo in New York on 6-7 September, and Canmaking News’ very own publisher Janis Osborn will be there.  You’ll find the Innovation Awards shortlist in the World News section.

Drinktec is being held in Munich in the middle of September and among around 1700 exhibitors you’ll find Ardagh, Ball and Logopak, all of who also feature in our World News Section.

A story that might be better placed in a wintry xmas edition, except it really would be yesterday’s news, is about the fascinating find in the Antarctic, Captain Scott’s fruit cake . . . in a tin! More about that in News in Brief.

HEADS UP

Canmaking News is considering running a new section whereby we place our focus on a specific company or organisation every month. If you think your company might be interested in appearing on our pages don’t hesitate to contact editorial@canmakingnews.com.

Also, don’t forget, if you have some great news about your company or your products – let us know and we’ll shout it from the Canmaking News rooftops. Again contact editorial@canmakingnews.com

And Finally,

We are pleased to announce our association with Latamcan as media partner; the Latin American Canmakers Conference, which had great success in both Guadalajara and Panama, will next be staged at the Grand Hyatt, Sao Paulo, 4-6 October, 2017.
